koziorożec

wysłała mu list z fantastycznym
okrągłym znaczkiem bo facet na poczcie
pochodził z dokładnie tego samego
zaśnieżonego miasta którego nazwę
przeczytał na kopercie a kiedy
poprosiła o jakiś fajny znaczek
pomyślał że jest ładna i szkoda
że ładne dziewczyny nie zwracają
na niego uwagi

ten co dostał list najpierw długo
obracał go w palcach próbując
przypomnieć sobie tamten dzień
i tamtą noc i każde słowo które padło
i nie padło między nimi ale
nie miał czasu wiec wsunął list
do szuflady i tam go zapomniał
a w potem w nocy pił tak długo
aż zapomniał o niej

czwarta rano kolejny raz obraca
w palcach pustą kopertę i nie może
znaleźć sobie miejsca w pustym
mieszkaniu i jest o wiele za późno
albo za wcześnie żeby zadzwonić
wiec znowu czyta list i znowu myśli
o niej a ona nie

bo facet z poczty miał w domu
fantastyczną kolekcję znaczków

capricorn

she sent him a letter with a brilliant
rounded stamp as the post-office lad
was from the very same snowy city
which name he read on the envelope
and when she asked for a nice stamp
he thought how pretty she was and what
a pity no nice girls pay attention to him

the one who got the letter firstly examined
it carefully attempting to remind himself
of that day that night and every word they
did say or they did not say but as he had
no time he put the letter in a drawer and
forgot about it and later that night he had
so much to drink that he forgot about her

four a.m. and he cannot stop examining
the empty envelope and he cannot find
the right space to fit into his empty flat
and it is way too late or too early to call
so he is reading the letter over and over
again and he is thinking about her again
but she is not

as the post-office lad had a brilliant
collection of stamps at home

dlaczego

czego się nie chwytam staje się
poezją
nawet te słowa same pchają się do wiersza
kasuję heksametry przy wejściu do metra
i z hukiem zasuwamy do najbliższej
pointy

czego nie dotknę staje się
miłością
nawet ten komputer drukuje tylko erotyki
zakochana po uszy na
ustronnej stronie miotła
namawia myszkę do
najcichszych
pozycji

wspomnieniem
nawet ten pomysł
żeby zostać twoją żoną
z firmowym znakiem jakości na palcu
zapomnę prędzej niż ty zdążysz
spytać

czemu te wiersze zawsze takie
pokręcone

(Wejście ewakuacyjne)

why

whatever I grasp becomes
poetry
even these words get themselves into the verse
I validate hexameters upon entering the tube
and with a bang we get ever closer to the closest
point

whatever I touch becomes
love
even the computer prints only erotica
up to its ears in love found in the world widest web
the keyboard would talk the mouse into the wildest
positions

whatever crosses my mind becomes a
memory
even this idea
of becoming your wife
with the company’s trademark on the finger
I shall forget before you even ask

why are these poems so
twisted

w mieście

z tych co mnie zapomnieli
złożyłoby się miasto
(josif brodski)

i nigdzie nie można go porzucić

każdy swoje miasto nosi w sercu

nawet kiedy zaciśniesz oczy

nawet w sercu innego miasta

nawet wtedy myśl o mnie
chociaż mnie nie
ma na żadnej mapie

(Lego dla ego)

in town

Those who forgot me
would make a city
(Josif Brodski)

even from here our city still looks as if on the palm of your hand
if you tighten-up your fingers you can squeeze it into your pocket

I am actually from here yet I often alter the coordinates
beds’ width relationships’ length temperature of emotions

it is how I know our city can fit everywhere
and nowhere can it be abandoned

everyone carries their city in their heart

even when your eyes are tightly closed

even in the heart of another city

even then think about me
though I am not to be found
on any map

w praktyce

i zmarszczki osaczą was na tyle by uniemożliwić ucieczkę

zgodnie z praktykami plemienia santhal w bengalu zachodnim

z innymi wolontariuszami zbierać z plaży ropę łyżeczką do zupy

in practice

what a shame there is no beer left or fags to borrow
the last night-bus gone the first one in an hour
what a shame the bicycle broke down when you two rode it
and what a shame all the others live at the other end of town

in practice you may still ring as somebody may still be awake
perhaps the door will open a towel appear with some space under the blanket
perhaps there will be coffee a cigarette and scrambled eggs for breakfast
perhaps you may even fall in love although the last time ought to be the last

in fact you may rent a flat together you may be able
to afford broadband internet and holidays abroad
your parents will help again believing this time it is for real
anyway time is chasing you through the mirror’s mines

perhaps with the kid’s arrival you will manage to put on some weight
with the wrinkles ambushing you preventing an escape and perhaps
the salary would be enough for tennis and a fitness-club with some sense
sufficing for venturing into the problematic pleasures of regular romances

you could still leave it all behind like arthur and go to africa to trade slaves
or as our escaping groom caress ever younger female bartenders

you could still as nine years old karnamoni marry a dog for protection
being a normal practice in the santhal tribe of west bengal

you could also like rainer following the prestige catastrophe on spanish shores
with other volunteers retrieve petroleum on the beach with a soup’s spoon

in practice you can ask for another fag and wait
for another hour at the bus stop but would it change anything

w sumie

z czasem ubywa ci poczucia humoru a zamiast mądrości przybywa życiowej

in fact

in fact what is it all about? you got something to eat a place to sleep somebody
to talk to you also believe that no issue is bigger and instead of banging
your head against the wall it is possible to have your teeth dug into

a loaf which is better than no bread: and you already know that with love
as with dominos after the first fiasco more fiascos hit and ultimately no
one is better or worse in bed as orgasm is solely a matter of one moment:

and you also understand it is easier to find a meteorite in the sahara than
some real happiness that really requires quotation marks: finally it is enough
to look out for dark stones on a bright sand like a newsweek pouch

so what is it all about? is it this moment before the awakening when you feel throughout your body that there is no hope to save your face from this farce
with that time loop licking your neck precisely as it bited into the clayed

neck of gilgamesh? or perhaps it is because year by year you understand less
how your sense of humour can fade away and instead of getting wise you are
just getting more stupid: and then you wish as sylvia to fall asleep the head

inside the oven or even better as virginia to swing stones inside the pockets?
come along silly let’s make a snowman at your image (and with a carrot
instead of a nose you will be waiting for the next spring): as there is no

life that could be embraced by any understanding and generally every
second is another riddle with an escaping solution until that at the very
end death like some makeshift point will not achieve as in the last line

oczy szeroko zamknięte

trzeba mieć oczy szeroko otwarte
żeby widzieć rzeczy takimi jakie są

trzeba mieć oczy szerzej otwarte
by widzieć je innymi niż są

trzeba mieć oczy otwarte jeszcze szerzej
by zobaczyć je lepszymi niż są

eyes wide shut

you have to keep your eyes wide open
to see things as they really are

you have to keep your eyes more open
to see them different than they are

you have to keep your eyes open even wider
to see them better than they are

but you have to keep your eyes wide shut
to see what is lurking behind them
