Born in Japan in 1956. Nakajima began to learn Japanese calligraphy from 6 years old and continued to practice while he was enrolled in Industrial Engineering with a focus on Architectonics in post-graduate studies at Chiba University in Japan. Japanese calligraphy is a traditional art form that is highly developed in Japan. Most professional calligraphers become teachers in private schools, but he had been seeking another way to live, as a master of Japanese calligraphy. In his 30’s, he chose to become an artist, and began to create works based on Japanese calligraphy. In 2000, he held a private exhibition in a contemporary art gallery in Rome, Italy which was his first exhibition in Europe. At the same time, he began to do performances to show the scenes of drawing. His action is influenced by Tai Chi, which he had been learning since his 20’s. Since the year 2000, he has continued to hold exhibitions and performances in Italy, France, Finland, Germany and the U.S. In 2006, he was invited to the 60th Avignon Festival, an international stage art festival in France, and held an exhibition and performance there. In 2008, he set up a new studio in Milan, Italy.
